Blast Environmental and Industrial Services, Inc. - Yellowstone
River Oil Spill Response

  • Description:   (Less Info)
At approximately 11 pm Friday, July 1, 2011, a break occurred in a
12-inch pipeline under the Yellowstone River 20 miles upstream from
Billings, Montana. The ruptured pipeline is owned by ExxonMobil
Pipeline Company. According to the company, an estimated 1000
barrels of oil entered the river before the pipeline was closed. EPA
is leading the response in close coordination with the state of
Montana and other federal agencies. Blast Environmental and
Industrial Services, Inc. located in League City, Texas deployed a
dozen men from the Houston area to the spill site to conduct cleanup
and remediation services along the impacted areas of the Yellowstone
River. Blast contracted with First In Rescue, Safety and Training,
LLC. (FIRST) to conduct a HAZWOPER refresher course for all
responders prior to departure to Montana and assisting in the spill
response effort. All of our personnel are safety trained and
HAZWOPER trained for the type work we perform throughout the
Petrochem and Oil and Gas industries, commented Sam Gonzales,
President of Blast. As emergency responders in a spill response,
everyone has to know the hazards you are dealing with and keep
themselves and their co-workers safe at all times, Gonzales
continued. Blast personnel engaged in cleanup and shoreline
assessment efforts by distributing and collecting absorbent pads and
boom. Over 1000 responders made up Shoreline Cleanup Assessment
Technique (SCAT) teams that assessed more than 6500 acres. Blast
